Padre Coraje is an adventure telenovela. The story takes
place in the 50s in Argentina. La cruz is a small rural town of 3000 souls. A places founded 70 tears ago by a powerful family which came from Europe willing to create their own country, with its own laws, principles and beliefs. The family still leads the destiny of La Cruz through the grandson of the founder who is its current Mayor. The protagonist is an idealistic young man who noticed the law only favored the powerful men, those who get benefits to the detriment of the poor, the weak and the helpless and decided to do justice in their defence. This is how Coraje was born. A Character about whom everybody talks with fervor and admiration for his brave deeds, but nobody ever met. Coraje asks masked, always accompanied by two other bandits. It's been said that one of them is a woman and that she is his wife, but nobody know if the rumors are true. Nobody knows anything about Coraje, although everybody expects to be rescued by him one day. The murder of one of the most respected men of La Cruz shakes the whole area and arouses the worse of suspicions. A few days before his death, Guerrico learned something that nobody was supposed to know. Something that could risk the interests of some powerful men. He was warned, and they even tried to silent him, but his deep sense of uprightness took him to the grave, together with his secret. Somebody had to pay for that life. Under the main square of the town, in a basement where every Friday the Lodge of the powerful men gathers, a candidate to be blamed for the crime was chosen. Is there anybody more appropriate than an outlaw? Coraje, whose life means nothing but taking from the rich and giving to the poor, somebody who has never hurt a fly.. has now committed the worse of exceptions: he killed Guerrico, the most respected and loved man from La Cruz. Once Coraje learnt about this injustice, decides to clean his name, take the law into his own hands and find the true murdered of Guerrico. And although nobody knows who it is, they know he is in La Cruz. That is how Coraje and his gang decided to go there, they knew they would need a strategy for such a big plan and they came across it on their way to La Cruz, Father Juan, the new priest of the village that nobody had yet met, was in his way to La Cruz when he was assaulted and killed by some bandits in the very moment Coraje and his gang was passing by. Although they could not save the life of the priest, the bandits got their come-uppance. Coraje saw in this misfortune episode, and more precisely in the sauterne of the priest, his safe-conduct to La Cruz and all its houses. Nobody more respected, harmless, more reliable to listen to the most shameful of the secrets than a priest. With certain admiration for Jesus, although with no theologian or liturgical knowledge at all, arrives the new priest to La Cruz, a pious and conservative village. This is the debut of our "Padre Coraje" and only one person can help Coraje in this new and difficult adventure, God. From now on, La Cruz church will be the epicenter of the planning and execution of the different strategies and investigations, all that is needed to make justice to two men: Guerrico and Coraje. Coraje is rapidly touched by the beauty of one of the young missionaries of the parish church. She is no other than the daughter of Guerrico. They both fall under the spell of love. She suffers for loving a man who is married with God while he has to pay the cost of his lie. With this romantic, almost epic beginning, the weaving of a plot loaded with passion, desire, hatred, fears.. and secrets start. Nothing is as simple as it seems. Even for Coraje there are secrets.. |
