STORY | |||
|
Carlota Guillen lives in the
city of Queretaro with her mother Bernarda and her older sister Eugenia.
To her friends, Bernarda is thoroughly respectable, when in reality she
was once the mistress of Leopoldo, one of the richest men in Guadalajara,
and that Carlota is his daughter and, therefore, the half-sister of Roman,
Leopoldo's only legitimate son. When Roman learns that his father has left
part of his wealth to Bernarda's daughters, he swears to take revenge. Carlota meets Alvaro Ibañez, a young physician who is doing post-graduate
work in Queretaro. Alvaro comes from Mexico City, where he lives with his
parents and his younger brother Adrian, who was adopted at birth. Although
their parents never treated him any differently than Alvaro, Adrian was
always filled with bitterness, and grew up resenting and hating his
brother.Bernarda knows all too well that the day her daughters marry, she
will have to give them their inheritance. Reluctant to give up the power
that money affords her, she is determined to drive away any man who comes
near her daughters. In spite of her constant vigilance, Roman manages to
seduce Eugenia and get her pregnant. In the tragedy that follows, Eugenia
dies in childbirth. Bernarda believes her grandson to have perished as
well; however, he has been spirited away and remains hidden, and destiny's
web becomes more entangled still. Alvaro never knew that Carlota had a sister. When the news reaches him that Bernarda's daughter is dead, he naturally believes it is Carlota. Heartbroken, he abandons his studies and moves to the state of Morelos with his parents, where fate meets him in the guise of Cordelia Portugal. Being the mirror image of Carlota, Cordelia sets out to take the place of... "The Other Woman." Will Cordelia finally succeed in replacing "The Other Woman" in Alvaro's heart? This is the mystery that we will unravel, day by day, as we trace the footsteps of... "The Other Woman." |
